GOR COLLECTS MAXIMUM POINTS FROM SOFAPAKA AS TUSKER DRAW AGAINST AFC LEOPARD

Gor Mahia continued with the good run in the league after beating Sofapaka 2-0 in Kisumu on Wednesday in a league match.
In a mid-week clash that was well attended by fans, Gor Mahia exhibited their might over struggling Sofapaka in what seemed to be a one sided match. The reigning SportPesa Champions took the game to Sofapaka right from the first whistle.
It was raid after raid with Sofapaka holding back while absorbing pressure but that couldn't last past the fifth minute when Gor Mahia midfielder Khalid Aucho pounced on a round from his earlier efforts to open the score sheet with a well taken header.
The push for another goal went on with the league giants pressing hard and giving Sofapaka a lot of defensive work to deal with.
Luke Ochieng was introduced before the halftime break as Gor Mahia took off defender Karim Nizigihimana due to stomachache. Sofapaka created a few chances which never troubled Gor side.
Just when Sofapaka thought they would push for an equalizer, Gor Mahia doubled the lead through defender Musa Mohamed on the 35th minute. 2-0 the score board read as the teams went for halftime break.
Second half was no different as Gor Mahia continued with the push for more goals. Sofapaka countered that push with good strength as they searched for a goal and midway the second half, their efforts rattled the woodwork before goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch making a good save.
As time elapsed, the two teams tried to get the better side of the other but Gor emerged the stronger side as they created several changes which were never utilised well.
Changes were done from both sides and on Gor Mahia side, Francis Kahata and Amos Nondi were thrown in place of Collins Okoth and George Odhiambo respectively.
2-0 it ended as Gor Mahia collected maximum points to go top of the log with 29 points as the 1st leg matches come to an end.
