The days are moving at a high speed as many Kenyans plan to join colleges
and universities for further studies. But as you plan to advance career
wise, which course do you think has a future in Kenya.
Following the employment trends in Kenya, anyone aspiring to join
college should be extra careful on which course to pursue at the
university. Some of the courses you think are popular may end up taking
you nowhere. Sometimes it pays to do research to determine which course
is trending in the job market and which one will be useless in the near
future.
If you are planning to join college in 2016 this is the course you should enroll for in Kenya
1. Statistics
Statistics is both marketable at undergraduate and Masters Level. The
professionals in this career are well paid and it’s rare to find a
statistics graduate being jobless. The average salary for a fresh
statistics graduate is Ksh75, 000.
2. Medicine
Medicine has been and still remains the most marketable course in the
country. If you have resources to enroll for the course then do it in
2016.
3. Software Engineering/Web Design
The growth of social media and the development of mobile apps have
created opportunity for software engineers to find a place in Kenya. Web
Designers have not been left behind either; they have several
opportunities related to web design and management as several Kenyans
opt to start websites to have their presence on the internet.
4. Journalism and Communications
Journalism was until recently not so marketable until companies were
forced by the growing number of internet users to have their presence on
social media and in the internet. As a Journalist you can be employed
to work for a
Media Station or companies to manage their social media platforms. You
can also be a journalist for one of the many media houses in the
country. Remember the digital system has opened windows for more TV and
Radio Stations.
5. Bachelor of Commerce
Many of our people argue that the course is flooded, but know from today
that there are so many companies which employ Bachelor of Commerce
graduates. What is needed of you is pursue the course alongside a
professional course.
6. Electrical/Civil Engineering
These two courses are also marketable but Civil Engineering is better
because it has more opportunities than Electrical Engineering.
7. Architecture/Structural Engineering
The two courses go hand in hand and they are regarded as the best in the
Kenyan job market. There are several wonderful opportunities for
Architectures and Structural Engineers in Kenya.
8. Nursing/Pharmacy
Nursing and pharmacy are courses you cannot overlook when picking a nice course that would give you a better life in future.
The best thing with these two courses is that even if you are not lucky to get a job you can employ yourself.
9. Quantity Survey
If you want to do a course that will make your rich as quickly as
possible then this is the course. Quantity survey is wonderful, it’s
rare and one of the few courses with graduates who are loaded.
10. Monitoring and Evaluation
It doesn’t matter which level you’ll do this course, but I want you to
know that the course is so marketable in Kenya. Please be the first one
to pursue the course in 2016.
11. GIS and Remote Sensing
GIS deals with spatial analysis and mapping. GIS is the idea behind
Google Earth and Google Maps. This is a rare course in Kenya which you
should do everything to pursue. It’s so marketable that any graduate
spotted with the qualifications is offered a job without applying for
one.
12. Early Childhood Education/Special Needs Education
These are the only courses in Education I can recommend anyone with
appetite to pursue Education to enroll and make their dreams come true.
