OLIECH GOES BROKE

Former Harambee star's captain Dennis Oliech, who plied his trade in France with Nantes and Auxerre, is said to be on the verge of bankruptcy after he failed to secure a contract with a top tier club in France, reports Goal.com.

Oliech, popularly known as ‘Dennis the menace’, is contemplating quitting football all together given his current financial woes.

According to Goal.com, Oliech spends most of his time loitering in Dagoretti Corner:
"Our brother Dennis (Oliech) needs urgent help, things are not good at all. He is far from the Oliech we knew, he is slowly losing it and may quit playing for good.

"If you go to Dagoretti (Corner), you will find him sitted with 'his boys' discussing nothing. His business he put up while playing away in France has already been closed down and things are not looking good,” a source shared with Goal.com.

Oliech is best remembered for demolishing hapless defenders and his arguably the best striker Kenya has ever produced.

DPP TO REOPEN HATESPEECH CASES AGAINST KURIA AND ALADWA

The Director of Public Prosecutions has moved to the High Court in a fresh bid to have former Nairobi mayor, George Aladwa, and Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, detained over hate speech and incitement to violence.
The DPP, through his deputy, Dr Leonard Maingi, is seeking to overturn the rulings in favour of the two politicians that saw them released on bail pending the hearing and determination of their cases in the chief magistrate's court.
The new application states that the magistrate who granted bail did not address himself to the compelling reasons as had been presented and "that national security and public safety considerations require a denial of bail".
"The correctness of the order of November 6 granting bail despite clear findings on compelling reasons justifying the denial of bail require urgent and supervisory intervention by the High Court,” the application presented before Justice Ngenye Macharia reads.

In the new onslaught, it is also stated that there is apprehension that the two politicians may continue to engage in hate speech in violation of conditions given to them when they were separately released on bond.
However, Dr John Khaminwa, who represents Mr Aladwa, said the DPP’s application "was served late" and sought time to respond.
He was granted till January 6, when the application will be heard inter partes while Mr Kuria's case will be heard on January 19.
Mr Aladwa was charged with incitement to violence and released on a Sh3 million bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000.
The hearing of the case was set for January 20.
Nairobi Chief Magistrate, Daniel Ogembo, dismissed a similar request seeking to have Mr Aladwa and Mr Kuria incarcerated pending the determination of their cases.
The prosecution had asked the court to deny the politicians bond on the grounds that "there is increased hate mongering and incitement to violence that may plunge the country into bloodshed".
At the time, Dr Maingi told the court that despite stringent bond terms meant to deter politicians such as Mr Kuria from making inflammatory remarks, they had gone ahead to "spew similar or even worse vitriol".
The court was told of Kiambu Governor William Kabogo's remarks that were said to border on contempt of court and the justice system.
However, the politician is yet to be charged.
Mr Aladwa's case, according to the prosecution, indicated it was desirable to bring death to certain Kenyans and was an affront to "the existence of an open and democratic society".
The DPP states that even after the court warned Mr Kuria to desist from hate speech he went ahead and posted inflammatory remarks on his Facebook wall.

RAILA ODINGA'S TRIBUTE TO AHMED DARWESH

"We retired last night with some very sad news The Standard Group had to share with all of us. Ahmed Darwesh, KTN’s lead Swahili Anchor, had passed on. On behalf of my family and the people of Kenya, I wish to express my very sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr Ahmed Darwesh, the Standard Group and media fraternity.
The Standard Group has lost a deeply professional, visionary and creative journalist. Kenya has lost an amazing journalist. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Ahmed have lost a dear friend.
No words can adequately express our sadness at Ahmed’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to know and work with him. We will honour his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much, of looking for the truth and expanding the frontiers of freedom. I stand with Mr Darwesh family, the company and staff of The Standard Group at this sad and trying moment."

Larry Madowo's Tribute to AhmedDarwesh

"Let me tell you about the Ahmed Darwesh I knew. Daru, as we all called him was a gentleman in every sense of that word. When I joined KTN in April 2008, he was already at the top of his game and down to earth to a fault. Before I had a car, Daru stayed around after anchoring the 7pm Swahili news until I had finished editing my 9pm business story so he could drop me home. We both lived in South B but dropping me outside my doorstep still took him a little out of his way. Keep in mind that he was a boldface named prime time anchor and I was a struggling business reporter so I would ordinarily not even show in his radar. If he travelled, he would let me use his car and even leave it fuelled. That was always an excuse for me to join him and his lovely family for beautiful meals whenever I was 'passing by.' Even at work, he paid for too many lunches that I can count, usually at a selection of Swahili restaurants with delicious food I couldn't yet afford. This picture was taken at Khan el-Khalili Market in Cairo. He had used his many connections and set up a week-long reporting trip to Egypt including a tour of the pyramids and Alexandria. You can still see him in part 1 of my report here https://youtu.be/Vttz2geLdq0?t=2m33s. He was a big brother to me in this big city, helping me create a career on television. Even after I left KTN and moved away, we remained fast friends and it was always a joy to see him whenever our paths crossed. I used to tease him about his signature line: 'Wakubwa hamjambo, wadogo mmeshindaje. Hii ni KTN Leo chaguo lako, wanakwetu wananiita Ahmed Darwesh' and he would grin indulgently. Daru was a kind, compassionate and funny man who was a gift to broadcast journalism. I am privileged to have known him. Rest In Peace, my friend. Shukran"

Blogger Nyakundi Slams Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama

Blogger Nyakundi has always on the spot when it comes to political criticism and exposing rots. The other day he exposed BIDCO CEO for grabbing land in uganda, now he was on Nyamira governor John Nyangarama's neck and this what he said "
Nyagarama has been in office but has done nothing . I have never heard anything positive about Nyamira county . For the time Nyagarama has been in office, no flagship project has been completed and if anything, the roads are impassable, the towns are dirty unlike before among many other serious concerns. Nyangarama has now become a big waste of time to the area residents of Nyamira county.
Nyangarama chose to use the position to make himself rich by expanding his economic empire at the expense of the poor Nyamira county residents who need change and development .
This will be a big lesson to Nyamira county residents that power to impact change lies in their hands . Nyamira cannot keep lagging behind in terms of development.
