VIDEO OF RIOTING STUDENTS AGAINST BABU

A section of State House road and Uhuru highway  have been blocked after University of Nairobi students go on rampage protesting the outcome of students’ union elections.

Most students were puzzled by Babu Owino's win because Mike Jacobs was leading in all campuses by midnight Friday. "We don't know how Owino won the elections because the other candidate was ahead all the time," said one student. The elections, which ended at around 5pm on Friday, saw heavy presence of anti-riot police who ensured peaceful elections in all voting centres. In the recent past University of Nairobi students have expressed concern over Babu's leadership style linking him to hooliganism after a video of him harassing his closest rival Mike Jacobs surfaced.  Jacobs was in his camp in the past contests before he decided to oppose him. Owino has already been sworn in as SONU chairman. He enjoys the support of the university administration.

UON students demonstrate over Babu Owino re-election

Students from the University of Nairobi have resumed demonstrations two days after they demonstrated following the re-election of Babu Owino as SONU chair for the fourth time.
Security is tight with a heavy contingent of police officers already stationed on State House road, University Way and Uhuru Highway in anti riot gear to avoid the situation getting out of hand.
More than 20 police cars, lorries and police officers in combat gear are on standby, even as traffic flow remains normal amid tension.
Babu Owino was sworn in as SONU chair on Saturday after beating his two closest rivals in a hotly contested election.
Police had on Saturday arrested more than 20 University of Nairobi (UON) students following the violent protests, bringing traffic to a standstill on sections of Uhuru Highway and University Way as the students hurled stones at cars, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the protesting students who claimed the hotly contested student elections were rigged.
The demonstrators argued that Babu did not deserve another term in office, having served several times before.

A senior Kakamega County Government official was arrested yesterday in connection with the violence which erupted at the launch of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula’s presidential bid at Muliro Gardens on Saturday. Mr Nabii Nabwera, the Kakamega County Chief of Staff and aide of Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, was taken into police custody for questioning. VIDEO: Kenya Power Employees Electrocuted on Transformer

A shocking video of two Kenya Power technicians getting electrocuted while working on electric posts holding a transformer, has horrified many on social media.
The employees supposedly from Nakuru County were on Sunday attending to a transmission line next to Ashok Leyland when they got burnt on the spot.
The disturbing video shows the two men on top suspended on the poles, when one gets in contact with the live wires sparking fire at the scene.
In the video captured by a by-stander, the man tries to get up but unfortunately touches the live wires again hence suffers another electric shock amidst screams from onlookers.
After the dreadful incident, the two were later removed from the posts and rushed to hospital.
It is not clear whether the two succumbed to the impact of the accident.
A section of the public blamed the Kenya Power for the unfortunate incident, as the electricity ought to be switched off during such operations.
